This belief was exemplified at the Artisan Awards 2024, organised by GJEPC, where Dipali Ghadigaonkar, a jewellery designer from KP Sanghvi, was recognised as the Second Runner-Up in the Unusual Material category.
Dipali’s award-winning creation drew inspiration from India’s rich architectural heritage—most notably the Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple, an ancient symbol celebrated for its intricate design and astronomical significance. Interpreted through a contemporary lens, the designer chose earrings as her medium, envisioning a piece that balances versatility with deep cultural symbolism.
The design showcased an innovative use of wood, selected for its lightweight quality and its connection to the temple’s iconic wheel. This was complemented by diamonds, yellow citrine, and white sapphire, creating a harmonious interplay of materials that highlighted the essence of Indian craftsmanship. At the heart of the piece, a metallic spinning wheel became the defining element—capturing the timeless rhythm and legacy of Konark.
